Abstract
Hyriopsis cumingii is the most economically important aquaculture species for freshwater pearl production in China. Previously, no single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) markers were developed from expressed sequence tags (ESTs) in this mussel. In this study, we report the characterization of 56 novel EST-SNPs using 24 individuals from one culture population with high genetic diversity. The minor allele frequency ranged from 0.0208 to 0.5000 and the observed and expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.0417 to 0.9524 (mean 0.4058) and from 0.0417 to 0.5461 (mean 0.3968), respectively. Five loci showed significantly deviated from Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium (p < 0.05). The linkage disequilibrium was not detected between loci pairs (p < 0.01). These new EST-SNP markers are useful for studying population genetic diversity and artificial molecular marker assisted selection of H. cumingii.
