Abstract

Histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis (synonym: Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease) is a rare form of lymphadenitis that characteristically presents with cervical lymphadenopathy and fever. The etiology and pathogenesis are unknown although there is an association with autoimmune diseases. A correlation with infections is discussed. This article presents the case of a 23-year-old woman of Pakistani origin with pre-existing type 1 diabetes mellitus, euthyroid autoimmune thyroiditis and (presumed) recurrent Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease in the context of an Achromobacter xylosoxidans infection.
