Abstract
In pursuit of bridging the gap between academia and industry for competitive advantage, the important strategy is to develop a quantitative indicator of University-Industry Collaboration (UIC). World Economic Forum first developed this notion in 2007. Theoretical and qualitative empirical studies have advocated the pivotal role of UIC. This study extends the investigation by exploring UIC's role in moderating real sector production towards social sustainability using the Human Development Index (HDI). The results show that the moderating role of collaboration is different for a different development levels, whereby collaboration transforms the negative effect of dominant real sector to align with human development.
