Rational control of the structure and properties of manganese steels of type 20GL using hardenability parameter

Part 1. About the possibility and expedience of the use of hardenability parameter for normalized manganese steels of type 20GL

Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

The hardenability parameter is used for characterizing structure formation in a steel under different cooling conditions including normalizing and annealing. A concept of equivalent cooling rate is introduced to represent the rate of cooling for a specific structure. The effect of the hardenability parameter on the equivalent cooling rates corresponding to different structures (martensite, half-martensite, and ferrite-pearlite-bainite with various combinations of the components) is analyzed.
