Calibration of working measures for natural measurements of the effective scattering area of objects in the optical wavelength range

Measurement Techniques Aims and scope

A method of calibrating tunable light reflectors, used as working measures in measurements of the opticalradar characteristics of objects under natural conditions, is proposed, a feature of which is a comparison of the effective scattering areas of standard and working measures over short routes, for which the far-zone condition is not satisfied. An analysis of the systematic errors of the method is presented and recommendations for reducing them are developed.

Notes

  1. Existing procedures for comparing the ESA of different types of reflectors in the optical band over routes of limited length rest on the idea of the method of physical modeling and require fairly complex measuring equipment [3, 4]. They are used for the upper sections of a checking system in specialized laboratories, thereby solving the problem of providing a metrological backup for optical-radar measurements.

  2. The situation for which signR  ≠ signR st∞ corresponds to an obvious blunder when calibrating the working measure and is not considered further.
