Abstract

Single crystals of KUO3Cl were grown out of a molten chloride flux and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. KUO3Cl crystallizes in the monoclinic space group, P21/m, with a = 7.0139(18) Å, b = 4.0933(10) Å, c = 8.542(2) Å, and β = 104.194(6)°. The uranium atoms are located in a uranyl, UO2 2+, environment with two oxygen and three chlorine atoms in the equatorial plane. The optical properties were measured, and this compound exhibits strong luminescence.

Graphical Abstract

The synthesis, crystal structure, and luminescence of KUO3Cl, a new complex uranium oxychloride, are reported.
