Abstract
This study was designed to evaluate the effects of sub-chronic exposure to co-injection of deltamethrin (DM) and methyl linoleate (ML) on gonads, sex hormones and lipoperoxidation in pubescent female rats. The co-injection of DM and ML in female rats does not provoke modifications on the gonads or on absolute body weight. Hormonal measurements show that DM–ML treatment increases the plasma follicle-stimulating hormone concentration after 30, 45 and 60 days whereas a significant decrease (p ≤ 0.05) of plasma oestradiol concentration was recorded after 30 and 45 days. This behaviour was not detected after 60 days. A significant decrease (p ≤ 0.05) of progesterone concentration, in particular after 45 and 60 days, was recorded. The determination of plasma malondialdehyde concentrations showed that the DM–ML combination did not have an effect on lipid peroxidation after 30, 45 and 60 days of treatment. Histological examination of ovaries from rats co-injected with DM and ML did not reveal any significant microstructural modification. However, we detected a slight regression in corpus luteum number in comparison with the controls.
