Brief report on academic contributions from China on the topic of rheumatic diseases

Kurzbericht über wissenschaftliche Beiträge aus China zu rheumatischen Erkrankungen

Abstract

Academic contributions by Chinese scholars have grown to take second place worldwide since 2009. However, little was known about Chinese academic contributions and their influence on rheumatic diseases. In order to present an overview of this field, a comprehensive bibliometrics analysis was performed based on data from two databases up to 2015. Since 2013, China has occupied third place regarding the number of rheumatic diseases’ publications. Nevertheless, most of these articles were not associated with high impact factors or frequent citations, let alone great influence. Multidisciplinary teams are being formed. Although on the right track, more efforts in all aspects are needed to improve developments in the area of rheumatology in China.

Zusammenfassung

Forschungsbeiträge chinesischer Wissenschaftler nehmen in ihrer Häufigkeit zu und stehen seit 2009 weltweit an 2. Stelle. Jedoch war bisher nur wenig über chinesische Forschungsbeiträge und ihren Einfluss auf rheumatische Erkrankungen bekannt. Um einen Überblick über diesen Bereich zu geben, wurde eine umfassende bibliometrische Analyse auf Grundlage von Daten aus 2 Datenbanken bis zum Jahr 2015 durchgeführt. Seit 2013 belegt China den 3. Platz hinsichtlich der Anzahl von Publikationen zu rheumatischen Erkrankungen. Die meisten dieser Arbeiten gingen allerdings weder mit einem hohen Impactfaktor noch mit häufigen Zitierungen, geschweige denn mit einem großen Einfluss einher. Multidisziplinäre Arbeitsgruppen sind in Entstehung. Zwar befindet man sich nun auf dem richtigen Weg, aber weitere Anstrengungen in jeder Hinsicht sind erforderlich, um die Entwicklung im Bereich der Rheumatologie in China voranzutreiben.
