Ethics declarations

Ethics Committee approvals were obtained by each participating centre. All consecutive patients planned to have surgery for HD under any form of anaesthesia and able to sign the informed consent were included. Patients with history of previous anal surgery and with any anal inflammatory disease or sepsis were excluded. Patients affected by full thickness rectal prolapse were excluded, also.
