Abstract

The basic components of a neurological examination were published in this journal in 2007. This second publication presents the items used, accounts for their selection and describes the examination and its evaluation. Most neurological items in this phase of development are significantly age-dependent. For this reason, the age groups for the infant medical examinations U2–U7 are precisely scheduled. Using functional neurology, which documents and assesses equilibrating and adaptive abilities, the neurological status of a child can be precisely and reliably recorded in the first two years of life.
