Abstract
Recent technological development has made head-mounted displays (HMDs) applicable for various industrial applications. Work-related information can be presented on mono- or binocular displays and support workers performing manual working tasks. But a long-term use of HMDs may introduce negative side effects. This study describes and analyzes physiological and subjective methods for workload detection in an industrial scenario. A pretest considers performance, subjective workload, head posture, visual acuity, muscle activity, sensitivity of the visual field and symptomes of simulator sickness while investigating stress and strain of different dis-playtypes during a 3,5h assembly task.
