Some reactions of luffamarin

Summary

The crystalline substance obtained from the seeds ofLuffa agyptiaca Mill., now named “Luffamarin”, has the probable molecular formula C20H30O5. It contains an alcoholic hydroxyl group, a ketonic group and an acetoxyl group. The function of the remaining oxygen is not clearly known. It is probably present in a heterocyclic ring.

A number of derivatives and degradation products have been prepared and analysed.
