Abstract
A well preserved and nearly complete specimen of a new limulid from the Upper Triassic of Northwest Germany is described. It is the youngest known species ofPaleolimulus. Comparisons with other species of the Paleolimulidae and with limulids from the Upper Triassic and Lower Jurassic are carried out. It is attempted to separate the two generaPaleolimulus andLimulitella.
Within the same sequence tracks of limulids and the embryonic stage of a limulid had been discovered. This leads to the conclusion that the depositional environment of the sediments was identical with the habitat of Triassic limulids. Sedimentological and palaeontological data suggest a fluvial environment, especially cut-off channels or lakes within the flood plain. Indications of marine influence are lacking.
