Energy levels of56Fe and27Al by the inelastic scattering of 15 MeV neutrons

Summary

A stilbene scintillation spectrometer has been used to study the neutrons inelastically scattered by iron and aluminium for an incident monoenergetic beam of 15 MeV neutrons. Using good geometry counts were taken with and without the scatterer in position and the results were analysed by a ratio method. For iron, levels have been obtained at 7.6, 5.8, 4.5 and 1.9 MeV. For aluminium, levels have been obtained at 8.1, 5.8, 4.0 and 3.0 MeV. Comparison with existing data from γ-ray measurements is given.

Uno spettrometro a scintillazione a stilbene è stato usato per lo studio dello scattering anelastico dei neutroni da parte del ferro e dell’alluminio per un fascio monoenergetico incidente di neutroni di 15 MeV. Con una buona disposizione sperimentale si sono eseguiti conteggi con e senza interposizione dello «scatterer» e i risultati sonostati analizzati per mezzo di rapporti. Si sono ottenuti per il ferro livelli a 7,6, 5,8, 4,5 e 1,9 MeV. Per l’alluminio si sono ottenuti livelli a 8,1, 5,8, 4,0 e 3,0 MeV. Si confrontano i risultati delle misure coi dati esistenti.
