Abstract

The influence of incubation temperature on struvite precipitation by 54 bacterial strains isolated from soil and fresh water was investigated. Bacterial crystal formation was found at all temperatures assayed, the best results being obtained at 5 and 25°C. A steady reduction in precipitation was observed when the incubation temperature was increased above 30°C The results of the present study led us to think that temperature may in fact have a direct influence on the biological precipitation of struvite.
