Summary
A method is developed which allows us to reduce the problem of the radiative motion of a charged particle to the consideration of a second-order differential system. The Lorentz-Dirac equation (no longer athird-orderequation of motion in our approach) appears as a supplementary condition on the accelerations, expressed by a nonlinear first-order partial differential system. The method is applied to several particular cases. New conserved quantities are also given. Finally, the «inverse problem», which offers a useful insight into the understanding of radiative motions, is studied.
