Journal of Russian Laser Research Aims and scope

Abstract

Spectra of the two-photon-excited fluorescence of diamond crystals in the near-ultraviolet and blue regions were obtained. The dependence of the fluorescence intensity on the excitation-laser intensity were investigated and were found to be nonlinear. The efficiency of conversion of the laser light to fluorescence emission was about 1%. The time evolution of the fluorescence spectra was also studied. The developed technique makes it possible to determine imperfections in natural diamonds. The possibility is also opened of using diamond crystals as efficient laser-frequency converters with continuous tuning over the range of from 300 to 490 nm.
