Visual field analyser: Assessment of delay and temporal resolution of vision

Abstract

The delay campimeter provides a simple and inexpensive means of detecting and measuring abnormally slowed transmission of visual signals from the eye to the brain. Such measurements can assist in the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. This test can be carried out in 10 min. In an alternative mode of use, a double-flash method is used to assess the extent to which visual signals leaving the eye are sharply defined along the time axis. Additionally, visual sensitivity to flicker can be measured by sinewave-modulating light intensity. Visual stimulation is by switching on, switching off, pulsing or modulating light-emitting diodes, whose relative timing is controlled electronically.

Le campimètre à délai fournit un moyen simple et peu coûteux de détecter et de mesurer la transmission anormalement lente des signaux visuels de l'oeil au cerveau. De telles mesures peuvent assister le diagnostic de la sclérose en plaques. Ce test peut être accompli en 10 min.

Dans un second mode d'emploi une méthode à double flash est utilisée pour évaluer à quel degré les signaux visuels en provenance de l'oeil sont définis nettement sur l'axe des durées. De plus, la sensibilité aux scintillations peut être mesurée en modulant l'intensité lumineuse sous forme d'onde sinusoïdale.

La stimulation visuelle est accomplie en allumant et en éteignant, en soumettant à des impulsions et en modulant des diodes émettrices de lumière dont la synchronisation relative est commandée électroniquement.

Zusammenfassung

Das Verzögerunskampimeter ist ein einfaches billiges Mittel zur Geststellung und Messung einer abnorm verlangsamten Ubertragung von Sichtsignalen vom Auge zum Gehirn. Solche Messungen können bei der Diagnose von multipler Sklerose helfen. Der Versuch kann innerhalb von 10 Minuten durchgeführt werden.

Bei einer alternativen Anwendungsart wird das Doppelblitzverfahren dazu eingesetzt, um zu beurteilen, bis zu welchem Grad visuelle Signale, die das Auge verlassen, im Laufe der Zeit (über die Zeitachse) klar definiert werden. Ferner kann die visuelle Empfindlichkeit auf Glackern durch Modulation der Lichstärke mittels Sinuswelle gemessen werden.

Die visuelle Stimulation erfolgt durch Einschalten, Ausschalten, Pulsieren oder Modulieren von Dioden mit Lichtemission, deren relativer Takt elektronisch gesteuert wird.
