Summary

  1. 1.

The velocity of methaemoglobin formation was found extremely variable in cats after injection of nitrobenzene. There was no appearant relation between the velocity of methaemoglobin formation and the blood concentrations of nitrobenzene.

  2. 2.

In the blood of animals oxydizing haemoglobin repidly, nitrosobenzene could be estimated. The velocity of methaemoglobin formation was maximal just at the time of maximal concentration of nitrosobenzene.

  3. 3.

Other metabolites of nitrobenzene which are also able to oxydize haemoglobin were present in the blood in very small amounts only. They are, accordingly, hardly involved in the oxydation of haemoglobin after incorporation of nitrobenzene.
