Summary

A study of predation inSmithistruma truncatidens andS. emarginata produces a variety of arguments supporting the hypothesis that the foraging workers attract Entomobryan Collembola. This attraction could be due to an allomone. Two hypotheses are formulated concerning the origin of this allomone, which may be the petiolar spongiform appendage or secretions of the labrum.
