Summary

The translocation of virus X and two strains of virus Y, viz. a normal strain (Y) and the tobacco veinal necrosis strain (YN) was studied. It was again evident that Bintje potato plants showed normal mature plant resistance to the viruses X and Y as was found in earlier experiments (Beemster, 1958, 1961). However, translocation of YN was much quicker than of the two fore-mentioned viruses; this was found to be even so in the case of rather old plants. Mature plant resistance to YN could not be demonstrated distinctly. This fact must be of importance in the epidemiology of this strain of virus Y.
