Summary
An incubation mixture for the generation of blood-thromboplastin consisting of BaSO4-plasma, activated serum, brain kephalin and CaCl2 reaches its full activity within five minutes and appears to remain stable for more than thirty minutes. However, there is an increasing tendency of the blood-thromboplastin during the first twenty minutes following its activation to lose its activity immediately upon removel of Ca++. That means, Ca++ has prevented inactivation. In the presence of Ca-ions an inactivation takes place only if serum is added to the mixture. The latter inactivation is progressiv. Both modes of inactivation may supplement each other but are not additive.
