Summary
Comparison of two-test-strips for semiquantitative blood-sugar determination.
Two test-strips for semiquantitative blood-sugar determination Haemo-Glucotest® and Dextrostix® were compared among themselves and to the objective blood-sugar values as determined by the method ofHoffmann et al. in 249 assays. Standard-deviation of the values estimated by the test-strips from the Autoanalyzer values was 17,13 mg-% for Haemo-Glucotest® and 35,34 mg-% for Dextrostix®. The difference was less than 30 mg-% in 92.2% of the cases for Haemo-Glucotest® and in 72.4% of the cases for Dextrostix®. The formula of the regression line wasy=0.9136x+12.4680±5.96 for Haemo-Glucotest® andy=0.4499x+78.1493 ± 20.70 for Dextrostix®. We found a correlation coefficient ofr=0.9190 for Haemo-Glucotest® and ofr=0.7212 for Dextrostix®. When 20 blood samples were assayed by 10 unexperienced testers with Haemo-Glucotest® all results, with the exception of 2 cases, varied by less than 30% from the Auto-analyzer values. Clinical suspicion of hyper- or hypoglycemia can be proven by both test-strips in every instance. Nevertheless, the Haemo-Glucotest® strip produced better results than Dextrostrix® strip in the range of about 60 to 240 mg-%.
