Das TNM-System zur Klassifikation von Tumorkrankheiten

Zusammenfassung

Das TNM-System beruht auf einer Methode, die Grade der klinischen Ausdehnung des Primärtumors (T), die klinische Beschaffenheit der regionären Lymphknoten (N) und der Fernmetastasen (M) mittels bestimmten, für jede Lokalisation festgelegten Charakteristika zu bestimmen. Nach diesen Bestimmungsstücken können die Einzelfälle zu verschiedenen Stadien zusammengefaßt werden.

Die Internationale Union gegen den Krebs (UICC), welche dieses System entwickelt hat, hofft, daß es eine weite Annahme findet, damit Chirurgen, Radiologen und alle übrigen Ärzte imstande sind, eine gemeinsame Sprache beim Vergleich ihres klinischen Krankengutes und der Bewertung der Ergebnisse der verschiedenen Behandlungsmethoden zu sprechen.

Summary

The TNM-System is based on a method by which in a given case the extent of the primary tumor (T), the state of the regionary lymphnodes (N) and distant metastases (M) is determined according to characteristics established for every site. Individual cases may then be arranged into several stages (see Fig. 1).

The International Union against Cancer (UICC) which sponsored the developing of the TNM-System, hopes, that by its wide acceptance surgeons, radiologists and doctors in general may be enabled to speak a common language when comparing their clinical findings and evaluating the results of different methods of treatment.
