Summary

Supplementary to previous investigations with six other cephalosporins, the effect of the cephalosporin cefoxitin on the proximal tubule was examined in volunteers. The excretion in the urine of alanine aminopeptidase, a membrane enzyme of the brush border membrane of the proximal tubule, was used as parameter. It was seen that the cephalosporins have almost no toxic effect on the tubule. Therapy of more than three days' duration and the possible effects on the impaired kidney were not considered in this study.
