Summary
Resistance to cefoxitin was studied on two groups of bacterial isolates and the results were compared. One group consisted of recently isolated bacteria from hospitalized patients, and the second group consisted of isolates of varying origin obtained from a study on resistance of the Paul-Ehrlich-Society. The following questions were asked: 1. Is there a significant difference in bacterial resistance against cefoxitin between the two groups? 2. Can cefoxitin be tested with the agar diffusion method, and are the recommended break points correct? The distribution of zone diameters as a function of frequency and the results of broth dilution versus the agar diffusion test were examined.
