Summary
Thymidine kinase (ATP: thymidine-2′-phosphotransferase, E.C. 2.7.1.21) was demonstrated in human blood platelets. As the enzyme is bound to the organelles, it seems to be a mitochondrial isoenzyme. Due to the fact that thymidine kinase and the DNA metabolism are highly correlated, the presence of (mitochondrial) DNA in human blood platelets is most likely.
