Summary

Radiation therapy for carcinoma of the uterus may cause early and late reactions in the gastrointestinal tract such as ulcers, hemorrhages, stenosis, and fistula. In many cases surgical treatment has to be restricted to colostomy. Intestinal resections should be performed only in tissues not affected by irradiation. Mortality in surgery after radiation therapy of the intestine is 25 %.
