Summary
The firing rates of pretibial flexor muscle spindles were examined before and during the application of a 0.2% procaine solution to the flexor muscle nerve, the firing rates being increased by tetanic stimulation of either the peripheral end of the cut ventral root or the ipsilateral gastrocnemius nerve. 12 out of 25 α-innervated muscle spindles showed no evidence of an additional γ-innervation, and 8 out of 17 γ-innervated spindles showed no evidence of an additional α-innervation as detected by response to procaine application.
