Summary
This paper discusses the problem of surgical correction of post-traumatic extension contracture of the proximal joint of the finger. Different causes that create the extension contracture are listed. Only patients whose injuries were caused by trauma are included in this study. Conservative treatment is outlined and the surgical technique explained. In 50 patients treated by operation, movement of the proximal interphalangeal joint is excellent in 25, fair in 15, and poor in 10.
