Abstract

Observations on the sequence of the events in the germination of chlamydospores in Protomycopsis patelii Pavgi and Thirumalachar parasitic on mung beans (Phaseolus mungo L. and Phaseolus radiat us L.) and Protomycopsis thirumalacharii Pavgi on ‘Agasta’ (Sesbania grandiflora Pers.) are presented. A short-time steep in acidulated water rendered the thick exosporium permeable to water and hastened their germination. Morphology of stages in the sequence of germination, sporogenesis in the vesicles and postemergence development of (endo)spores are described in detail. Probable consequences of aberrant germination types are indicated.
