Regulation of ribosomal RNA synthesis in Drosophila melanogaster cells with different contents of sex chromosomes and nucleolar organizers

Molecular and General Genetics MGG Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

The quantity of ribosomal RNA genes and the rate of ribosomal RNA synthesis has been studied in established cell lines of Drosophila melanogaster with diploid, polyploid and hemizygous karyotypes and in larval diploid cells carrying 1, 2, 3 or 4 nucleolar organizer regions. The rate of rRNA synthesis has been shown to depend on the number of sex chromosomes rather than ribosomal genes or nucleolar organizers.
