Summary
A first-order deactivation model which includes a step that does not destroy enzyme activity, but is a compulsory precursor of the step that does, is shown to fit reasonably well the immobilized and soluble enzyme deactivation data presented. The deactivation rate coefficient increases with time, and the model may be generalized to include n such compulsory precursors.
