Summary
A technique is described for measuring the ratio between free (hydrophilic) cells and cells adhering to the hydrocarbon phase (hydrophobic) in a hexadecane fermentation, using the fact that hexadecane freezes at moderate temperatures, thus immobilizing adhering cells.
