Chemical and Physical Property Modifications Induced by Ion Irradiation in Polymers

  • Chapter
Materials and Processes for Surface and Interface Engineering

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSE,volume 290))

Abstract

In the recent few years there has been a growing interest in the modification of surfaces and thin layers of polymers. Many new techniques have been applied or proposed to produce the desired modifications, including “wet” chemical techniques as agents of selective etching or modification (including the wide class of grafting reactions), electron beams, electrical treatments like the widely used corona discharge and the very popular plasma applications [1,2].
