Abstract

Due to enormous pressures from national and international marketplaces, Computer Integrated Manufacturing has become a tremendously important area of both research and development. However, the current state of the art is still characterized by islands of automation. We present an approach which is developed to bridge the gap between such islands of automation. We propose a CIM Manager which provides services for integrating heterogeneous CIM components. In this paper we focus on the object management services which provide a unified view of the data managed by different CIM components. Furthermore we discuss the process management services which assist in directing and coordinating CIM activities throughout the whole enterprise.
