Abstract

The importance of ontology is generally recognized today: as the base for specification and development of software, shared information access, knowledge portal development, user interfaces of software and information editors. However, existing ontology descriptions and their development methods do not embrace complicatedly structured domains: domains with different but similar subdomain ontologies, subdomains with different but similar sub-subdomain ontologies and so on. This paper contains a description of the class of complicatedly structured domains and provides examples. The definition of multilevel ontologies for such domains is described; the method of their development is presented. The differences between this new method and already existing methods for ontology creation are analyzed. The properties of intelligent systems for complicatedly structured domains based on multilevel ontologies are considered.
