Summary

Wireless network delay is the main factor that deteriorates the performance of the wireless networked control systems (WNCS). In order to restrain the impact of network delay effectively, a new approach is proposed. The approach was composed of a new Smith predictor combined with fuzzy adaptive controller for the WNCS. Since a new Smith predictor does not include network delay, the network delays does not need to be measured, identified or estimated on line. Therefore, it is applicable to some environments in which network delays are larger than one single sampling period or than ten sampling periods. Based on IEEE 802.11b/g (WLAN), the results of simulation show validity of the control scheme.
