Open dialogues need adapted approach.
Introduction
In Finland since 1970s several research programs aiming at developing treatment of schizophrenia have affected the psychiatric care in Western Lapland, where the Open Dialogue Approach (ODA) was created. These have been
- 1.
The Turku Project, since 1976 in the Mental Health District of the City of Turku
- 2.
The National Schizophrenia Project, a family-centered approach for the treatment of schizophrenic patients carried out in 1981–1987
- 3.
The Integrated Approach to the Treatment of Acute Psychosis Project (API Project) carried out since 1992–1998
The common aspect of all these projects is to develop psychotherapeutically oriented integrative approach. In these projects the need-adapted-approach was developed with the main aim of always adapting the treatment response to the unique and varying needs of every client and the family.
