Serologic and Structural Comparisons of Rabbit IgA Allotypes

  • Chapter
Secretory Immunity and Infection

Abstract

Two subclasses of rabbit IgA, IgA-f and IgA-g, have been identified (1,2) and genetic variants of each subclass have been found (1–4). These genetic variants, identified immunologically, are designated allotypes. The IgA-f allotypic specificities, f69, f70, f71, f72 and f73, are controlled by allelic genes f 69, f 70, f 71, f 72, and f 73, respectively at the f locus and the IgA-g allotypic specificities, g74, g75, g76, and g77 are controlled by allelic genes g 74, g 75, g 76, and g 77, respectively, at the g locus. The f and g loci are closely linked to each other and to the chromosomal region controlling the synthesis of the variable (V) and constant (C) regions of immunoglobulin (Ig) heavy chains (5).
