Abstract

A prototype test system for the nondestructive measurement of residual stress measurement railroad wheels has been evaluated, and the results compared to destructive rim force measurements. The test system employs the magnetoacoustic method of stress measurement, and represents the transition of this approach from a laboratory technique to an industrial tool.
