Abstract
Staging is a critical issue in the evaluation, prognosis, and treatment planning for patients with cancer. Newer imaging techniques play an important role in determining the extent of cancer and the optimal treatment regimen. The recent introduction of PET and PET/CT has been shown to increase the stage of many patients, leading to changes in the treatment plan. Stage migration will lead to improved treatment results, which must be kept in mind when viewing historical data.
