Abstract

Seven types of presumptive ciliate sensory receptors of larvalMulticotyle purvisi (Trematoda, Aspidogastrea) are described by transmission electronmicroscopy. The type 1 receptor has one electron-dense collar and a short (approx. 0.6 μm long) cilium. The type 2 receptor contains two electron-dense collars and a cilium with much dense cytoplasm around the ring of doublets of nicrotubules. In the type 3 receptor, two electrondense collars with large reticulate extensions into the receptor are present. The type 4 receptor has two electron-dense collars and a long, cross-striated ciliary rootlet. The cilium of the type 5 receptor contains a large number of single microtubules and doublets. The type 6 receptor has two electron-dense collars and a cilium at least 6 μm in length, and the type 7 receptor is characterized by two electron-dense collars and a cilium that is approx. 1.3 μm long.
