Abstract
The Earth’s atmosphere shields the planet from much but not all potential harm. In addition to being an abundant source of oxygen—a crucial resource for most life forms on Earth—the atmosphere also protects the planet’s inhabitants from the intense light and harmful radiation of the Sun.
