2016, Journal of Insect PhysiologyCitation Excerpt :Furthermore, a role for adenosine as a paracrine homeostatic signalling molecule associated with metabolic imbalance within vertebrates and insects (Drosophila) has been described (Buck, 2004; Žuberová et al., 2010; Fleischmannová et al., 2012; Kučerová et al., 2012; Bajgar et al., 2015). However, despite its description in mammals, the role of adenosine in the anti-OS response in insects has not yet been studied (Maggirwar et al., 1994; Dana et al., 2000; Chen et al., 2001; Narayan et al., 2001; Husain and Somani, 2005; Sousa et al., 2008). A possible interaction between the AKH and adenosine signalling pathways in Drosophila carbohydrate metabolism was discussed by Žuberová et al. (2010).
