2018, Current BiologyCitation Excerpt :The overlapping colonization routes (termed the “Muskox Way” by ref [23]) followed by the muskox, the caribou [27, 28], and humans [29] into the Neartic suggest overlapping ecological or habitat dependencies, and all these species have reduced genetic diversity in High Arctic populations. Another shared feature is the repeated cycles of colonization and local extinction [30–32]. The oldest dated remains of muskox in Greenland are from ca. 5.4 kya [5, 33].
