EntroPhylo: An entropy-based tool to select phylogenetic informative regions and primer design
2021, Infection, Genetics and EvolutionCitation Excerpt :EntroPhylo also uses these aspects for primer design, but the novelty is that the program combines the possibility of the user choosing the alignment region based on entropy values per site, considering the degeneration at the 3′ end of the primer, and amplifying the informative regions for phylogeny selected by entropy calculation. Some softwares that uses entropy calculation for primer design have been proposed, such as PrimerDesign-M (Brodin et al., 2013; Yoon and Leitner, 2015), DEFOG (Fuchs et al., 2002), and FAS-DPD (Iserte et al., 2013). However, the purpose of all these tools is only to find primers.
Genome-wide association analysis of gender differences in major depressive disorder in the Netherlands NESDA and NTR population-based samples
2011, Journal of Affective DisordersCitation Excerpt :Olfactory receptors interact with odorant molecules in the nose, to initiate a neuronal response that triggers the perception of a smell. Olfactory receptors share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and are responsible for the recognition and G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals (Buck, 1992; Buck and Axel, 1991; Fuchs et al., 2002; Lancet and Pace, 1987; Malnic et al., 2004; Reed, 1990). The prevalence of female for MDD being twice that for males has been well established in the literature; however, the mechanism underlying this disparity remains unclear (Goodwin and Gotlib, 2004).
